David Schwartz’s Running Speech

Our very own David Schwartz wrote a speech for the Academic Decathlon this year on his experience with Cross Country. This very speech was featured on the DyeStatCal.com (the internet home for California Cross Country/Track) homepage this week because of how wonderful it is. You can read it in full at this link.

David–I smiled, with pride, the whole way through your “speech” (and you are not even my kid!)–it read more like a Cross Country Credo! Cheers to you, your heart, and your inspirational attitude!

David – I think you’re all nuts, but in a good way. I think you put it very well, and you’re an inspiration to all of us. I had chills as you described the disabled runner. What you described there was the first thing I noticed about track/cross country vs. every other sport I’ve watched my kids participate in – the teamwork AND respect for the members of the other teams is like nothing I’ve ever seen. thanks for sharing your words with us.

Wow!!! That is all I have to say. Your speech gave me chills. I am not a runner but my daughter is. She is a freshmen on the team. I am not sure she wanted to join, I kind of just signed her up based on a tip from her middle school coach. I think she is finally getting into it. I see passion in all of the runners and I give kudos to you all.
