Redondo places 2nd and 4th at the Roy Griak Invitational

A small squad of runners competed Saturday for the Redondo Union boys and girls cross country teams at the 27th Annual Roy Griak Invitational – University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Gold 5K Course Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 Varsity Girls; The Redondo girls cross country team finished in second place in the 44-team field with 171 points at the 27th Annual Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday afternoon on the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Gold 5k course. Naperville North captured the title with 151 points and Eagan in third place with 186 points.

 

Leading the way for the Sea Hawks was senior Kayla Ferron with time of 19:31.5 to place 19th overall out of the 409 participants in the race. Right on Ferron’s heels was sophomore Amber Gore and senior Cara Ulizio both crossing the line in 19.35, making good for 20th and 21st places respectively. Next up for the Sea Hawks was sophomore Paige Sullivan with a time of 20:23.4 in 57th place and sophomore Nicole Pederson with a time of 20:39.4 in 72nd place to round out the Sea Hawks’ scorers. Finishing up for the Sea Hawks was senior Erin South with a time of 21:08.4 in (99th) place and senior Alexis Thibodeau with a time of 21:08.4 in (128th) place. Also crossing the finish line today for the Sea Hawks was sophomore Thalia Silva 140th – time 21:34.3, sophomore Anevey Heihle 173rd – time 21:57.0 and junior Sabrina Zavala 303rd – time 23:28.2.

 

Varsity Boys; The Redondo Union boys cross country team raced to fourth place in the 44-team field on the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Gold 5k course. Dowling Catholic won the team score with 124 points, followed by Bismarck, Madison West, and Redondo Union with 230 points.

Senior Evan Malone-White led the Sea Hawks in a time of 16:33.47 to finish 23rd overall out of a field of 429 runners. Following behind Evan was junior Dustin Herold in 26th place with a time of 16:42.67 and senior Garrett Klatte in 38th place with a time of 16.51.57. Next up was junior Will Tait coming in 74th   place with a time of 17:21.27 and sophomore Carlos Suarez 81st place with a time 17:23.02. Finishing up for the Sea Hawks was junior Tomohiro Yamaya (104), time 17:31.67, junior Waseem Radi (117) time 17:38.97. Also crossing the finish line today for the Sea Hawks was junior Takehiro Yamaya 134th – time 17:47.97, junior Nicco Amorelli 244th – time 18:35.67 and junior Nick Wells 256th – time 18:39.97.

The Sea Hawks Varsity and Next top 7 for boys and girls teams will prepare for the Clovis Invitational held at Woodward Park, Fresno on Oct. 6th.  The rest of the Sea Hawk athletes not attending Clovis Invitational will prepare for Warren Stauffer Invitational held at Hollydale Park, South Gate.
