Cross Country Announcement 8/6/20

As we move through this ever-changing year, we have some announcements to make. As it stands today, the official Cross Country season will begin Dec. 26th and conclude with the State Championships March 27th.  The track season will begin on March 20th.

First of all, we will be turning in a team roster this week. Once classes begin it will be very difficult to make changes. We will need to be as realistic as possible about who plans to join the team.  Typically, we use the Alumni Race as a tryout for newcomers to the program. This is after I have accessed everyone else over the Summer Camp. This year we have had neither. We would like those interested in participating in cross country to send a video of themselves running 800 meters.  They can complete one at a track or create one on a road or stretch of the bike path. Upload the video and send me the link to  Do not send me the file. I will not accept it. Also, attach the 800m time. Grades 10-12 need to have this done this week (Sunday).  Sorry for the late notice. Freshmen have until August 11th.


Redondo Premier Track Club (an official USA Track and Field Club) 

We are excited to announce that we have set up the Redondo Premier Track Club (not affiliated with RUHS) to include high school-age athletes. While we do not know how long before we can begin coaching on campus, it appears likely that this will be our best training environment for the next several months. The club will begin practices next Monday, Aug 10th at Veterans Park in Redondo Beach. Practices will be held Monday-Friday from 8 am to 10 am. The club practices will follow my training plan to prepare young athletes for the coming Cross Country season. If your child has participated in our past Summer Camps and fall seasons this will be very familiar. The training will be directed to develop a young athlete’s endurance, athleticism, and racing skills. The goal of this club is to provide an organized, progressive training program to develop these athletes.  Being on this club is in no way meant to suggest your athlete has secured a roster spot on the high school team. If an athlete chooses not to participate in the Redondo Premier Track Club and would like to join the high school team there will be an opportunity to tryout as the season approaches. 

Athletes will need to be a member of the USA Track and Field.

  1. The membership fee is $25 for youth athletes 18 and under. It is an annual fee.
  2. Redondo Premier Track Club #33-1025 is the name and number needed to complete the application.
  3. The USATF site is and go to the membership page to sign up.

Our typical (in previous summers) 5-week Summer Camp is $170 per athlete. The Redondo Premier Track Club fee will be $50 per athlete, per month.  All payments will be via Venmo, @Bob-Leetch or

Unfortunately, we will not be accepting checks. Any cash payments need to be exact. No change will be given.

The protocols will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Meet at the parking lot on the South end of the park.
  • Arrive at practice wearing a mask.
  • The club enrollment form and the new COVID-19 Waiver must be signed and given to your adult coach. I will also have printed copies available.
  • If your child or live-in family member is Not feeling well, please do not attend practice.
  • Upon arrival, all participants will have their temperature taken. If the temperature is higher than 99.7 we will ask the child to rest and be remeasured. If their temperature lowers, they may join the practice. If not, your child will be asked to leave.
  • Once their temperature has been taken their name will be recorded and assigned to a pod.
  • Once we have our child ready, they will be assigned a pod near a cone. In the pod, they will stretch while maintaining distancing of 6+ feet. The pods will be a minimum of 20 feet apart.  At this point, the assigned workout will be discussed and the athletes will leave for their run.
  • There will be no physical contact during practice with the coach or other athletes. No high fives or handshakes.
  • If your athlete brings a water bottle or towel there is no sharing.
  • Once practice is completed athletes are to wear their masks and leave with their parent or parents.
  • There will be no socializing after practice.
  • Wear a mask when leaving the park.

Hopefully, we can get back to our usual training and seasons of racing. But for now, this will be our training setting. Stay safe everyone.
