Results: RUHS All-Comers Meet

The results for the 2nd Annual Redondo Union All Comers Meet held on Saturday February 12, 2011, are now posted in the Meet Results to the right, or to go straight to the results click here. These are the full meet results for every competitor in every event. An official version without the school affiliations or the 4X400 relay splits can be found on ESPN-Rise.

Note that for those who competed in an event that they were also in last year at this meet, the 2010 mark and the difference between the 2010 and 2011 marks are shown on the right. The figure in the Difference column shows how much better or worse you did this year over last year.

All-in-all I think the meet ran very smoothly for an all comers meet, but then most are pretty ragged. The mass-participation in the 4 X 400 relays was a bit of a surprise, but we did round up enough watches and timing volunteers at the last minute to get splits on all but one team.  If anyone can provide some help on the misspelled names and missing team info (you need to write more neatly people!), I’ll make the corrections right away and re-post the results.

We had eight teams/clubs participating and a few unattached individuals. Two Masters athletes participated, with Kirsten Leetch burning down the house in the 1600, and GP Suddeth cruising the track in the 800. Maybe next year we we need to plan and promote some Age Group/Masters categories to balance out our elementary school and middle school events. I was up early this morning, drank a couple raw eggs, and then it was off to do some hill repeats in preparation for next year’s meet.

Speaking of our younger participants, the Quiet Fire track club sent a contingent of kids who all ran several sprint and middle distance races. We also had elementary and middle schoolers from Branch of Hope School. Now if only if we could motivate the kids at Parras and Adams to come out…

Since this is our second year putting on this meet, we now have meet records to break. On Saturday we saw new records being set by Kayla Ferron in the 800, Daryl Thomas in the 300, Olivia Loveland in the 300 hurdles, Sam Bodin in the high jump, and Daniel Niko, Nadia Basich and Taylor Bongiovanni in the shot put. The record for breaking records goes to Julian Singer for setting new marks in the 60 and 300 hurdles plus the 400. There were also some tied records in the pole vault with Max Niebergall and Jason Tarango equaling Max’s record from last year. Jasmine Freeman also tied last year’s girls pole vault record.

Records were also set by our guests with Nicole Kosakouski from Warren getting the girls 300 mark, and Oscar Duran from Lynwood, after competing in the 1600 and the pole vault, setting the 3200 record running all by himself. The middle schoolers set eight records and the elementary schoolers set four.

A total of 24 records were established and 2 others were tied.

There were an awful lot of personal records (PR) set for such an early season meet. Since it has been a year since anyone ran the 600, most were set there, with Dezhan Bland, Evan Malone-White, Garrett Klatte, Andrew Hazeltine, and Hector Echavarria on the boys side, and Olivia Loveland, Cara Ulizio, Laura O’Neill, Anique Villegas, Brenna Sopp, Kayla Ferron and Alexis Thibodeau on the girls side.

Nick Steinke and Kelly Ryan PRed in the 1600, Alex Guzman in the 800, Ben McLaughlin in the 300 hurdles, Randie Vlanakis in the high jump, Jasmine Freeman in the pole vault, and Taylor Bongiovanni in the shot put.

Many more PRs were set by our frosh athletes as this is their first official competition, so whatever they did is their starting PR and their goal will be to surpass it in the next meet. There were also lots of PRs set by those competing in events for the first time, especially rare events like to 60 meter hurdles, 300 meter dash, as well as the previously mentioned 600 meter run. As the season progresses I will be making PR designations next to marks that exceed those PRs established at this meet.

The next meet will be the Paramount Relays on March 5th. To see the current status of this season’s meet schedule, click here.

Hope to see you all at Paramount High School in three weeks.

Wear red. Be loud. Go Sea Hawks!

  1. Yep! I believe an age-group component would add an additional level of fun to the event. It WAS lonely out there, but I enjoyed participating and watching those amazing kids run.
