“We are very proud of our three young milers. They have had fine seasons and competing in the state championships will be a fitting end to the regular season.”
“For Lyndsey to make it to the state championships after her hip injury is a testament to her courage and determination. By mid-season she was still on crutches. But, of course, for Lyndsey to simply make it to the state meet will not be enough. She was third last year and has high expectations for this meet as well.”
“Cara is the lone underclassman coming out of the brutal Southern Section in the 1600. She has worked very hard and has a keen sense of who she is and where she is at. Look out for this one.”
“Evan has run well tactically all season and now is getting an opportunity to run fast. His 4:14 now ranks him as the #3 sophomore miler in the nation. Evan also has trained very hard but what sets him apart is his poise in the big
meets. He gets nervous but never rattled. It seems the bigger the stage the more calm he is.”
“Lyndsey is well known on a national scale and before too long the other two
will be as well.”
In 1981 Margaret Spotts was the last Redondo athlete to compete in the California State Meet. She ran 4:50.1 for 1600 meters. 2008 was the next opportunity for a Redondo athlete as Chloe Curtis made the State Meet at 800 meters with a time of 2:11.1. Spotts’ 1600 mark stood until 2009 when Chloe Curtis ran 4:49.7 and placed second overall. In that same year Cody Schmidt ran the 3200 meters as Redondo Union had multiple athletes compete. 2010 marked the year that Curtis became the State Champion in the 1600 with a time of 4:46.4 and Mull placed third. Redondo also qualified the boys 4×400 relay with an entrance time of 3:16.8. The alternate on that team was freshman Evan Malone-White. This will be Redondo’s fourth consecutive state meet with multiple athletes.
